Oakmont and Riverview Should Move on Tax Opportunity
Taliaferro says Oakmont and Riverview should participate in a TIF program to get the second half of the Edgewater development moving.
As you may have noticed, there is some construction finally going on down at the old Edgewater Steel site. Now why am I bringing this up? This is only a little more than half of what will be eventually built there. Only one small problem — one of the developers, Brooks and Blair Homes, has asked the borough and the school board to participate in TIF to help the company come up with the necessary money, only to receive a lot of foot dragging and hemming and hawing. Tax Increment Financing, or TIF, is a nationally-utilized way for muncipalities to complete development projects, according to Wikipedia.
