Temps are going to be dropping overnight.
A cold front is sweeping through the area this week, and the National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for the Plum-Oakmont area late Sunday into Monday. Temperatures could reach 30 to 35 degrees during the predawn hours of Monday. Flowers and plants have started to bloom, but they could freeze Monday night.
A freeze warning will be in effect in Allegheny County—including the Plum-Oakmont area—Monday night into Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has indicated that freezing temperatures could occur from 10 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday. Temps most likely will be in the 20s—the forecast is 25 in Oakmont and Verona, and 23 in Plum—and unprotected outdoor plants could be damaged or killed. A hard freeze can occur in areas where temperatures are colder than 28 degrees for three or more hours. The mild weather over the last two weeks has caused trees and flowers to blossom, but it can be severely impacted by the hard freeze tonight.
