Redistricting could happen as early as next school year or as late as the 2015-16 school year.
Plum Borough School District officials continue to explore the best option for redistricting—it could occur as early as next school year or as late as the 2015-16 school year. However, the school board and administrators have many factors to consider when deciding when to implement the new plan. A new school building project at the Adlai Stevenson Elementary site is expected to begin this summer/fall, Holiday Park Elementary is closing once the new school is built and hundreds of Adlai students will be moved to the Old Pivik during construction of the new school ((district officials are calling this AS@P). As of right now, plans call for crews to break ground/demolish the existing Adlai Stevenson in June 2013. Building construction will …

Plum School District officials discussed possible changes and a timeline for the new school project at the Adlai Stevenson site.
Plum School District officials continue to work on plans for a new school at the Adlai Stevenson Elementary site. During the school board's facility committee meeting on Tuesday, officials discussed contracts, a timeframe, possible names for the new school. Current plans call for a new school at the Adlai Stevenson site, the immediate closure of Holiday Park Elementary—Regency Park Elementary also could close in the future—and the redistricting of all students. The new school building will mirror the new George Pivik Elementary School, which opened this school year. School board member Shane McMasters said that because the new school would be the only one in the Holiday Park section of the borough, he wants it to be the new Holiday Park …

Schools are gearing up for the annual telethon, filmed at the high school.
It's no surprise that Plum School District is a big supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Each year, the high school students produce, direct and star in a six-hour long telethon to raise money for the organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening conditions. This year's telethon will air and be filmed on Dec. 21 at the school. In the meantime, students and teachers have gotten a kick start on fundraising for the organization. The Holiday Park Elementary teachers will be cooking, taking orders and serving the patrons of McDonald's on Route 286 tonight, Dec. 11, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Last month, the high school students held a Buy-A-Guy auction and raised $5,000 for Make-A-…

Plum School Board members want more specific information about building a new Adlai Elementary—and closing other schools—for students in light of demographic study.
Plum School District administration is in the process of compiling information that would determine the feasibility of building a new school at the Adlai Stevenson Elementary site. On Tuesday, the school board took a straw poll and determined the majority of board members were interested in the possibility of a building a new school for children—and closing some—in the Holiday Park area of the district. Officials have been discussing building/renovation options in an effort to make the district more efficient. In 2012, the district's 3,976 students accounts for the lowest enrollment in more than 15 years, according to Superintendent Timothy Glasspool. According to the district's 10-year demographic study, which was completed by Stewman …

The rush is, they have left Adlai go for FAR TOO LONG. This building may not make it through this winter, seeing as it's boiler can no longer be repaired because parts no longer exist for it. Last winter the heat went out and the concrete stairwells had to be salted so children wouldn't fall. There have been problems with the toilets flushing. There are holes in the roof, and squirrels were …   more ›
