Oakmont Chamber Director Chosen As 'Hometown Hero'

Summer Tissue, Oakmont Chamber of Commerce's director and founder of Military Connections, will tell her story on the radio Wednesday night.

One local woman has been chosen as a recipient of KDKA NewsRadio 1020 Morning Host Larry Richert's Hometown Hero Award. Summer Tissue, the director of the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce, was chosen for her work through Military Connections, a non-profit organization she founded 10 years ago after her brother, Ed, joined the Marine Corps. Through the organization, Tissue sends equipment, care packages and supplies to military personnel stationed overseas. Many Military Connections fundraisers and drives have been held in the community for several years. Last week, Tissue accepted her award surrounded by friends, family and many Wounded Warriors. Small Business Weekend Begins Friday in Oakmont

Several Oakmont businesses will be offering special deals this weekend!

As you think about holiday shopping this year, why not take a stroll down Allegheny River Boulevard in Oakmont? The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce and several Oakmont businesses are participating in Small Business Weekend—running Friday, Nov. 23, to Sunday, Nov. 25—in an effort to encourage the community to shop locally. Participating stores will be offering special promotions and services for many of your gift-giving needs. Oakmont & Verona Kick Off the Holiday Season Saturday

The annual Christmas celebration and parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 17.

It's time to deck the halls in the Twin Boros this weekend! The Oakmont and Verona chambers of commerce are hosting the annual hometown Christmas celebration and parade on Saturday, Nov. 17. The parade begins at 5 p.m. in Oakmont this year and ends in Verona. Ian Petrella, the actor who plays Randy Parker in A Christmas Story,  will be this year's parade grand marshal. Fans will have an opportunity to meet Petrella after the parade.  Festivities begin at 4 p.m. on Allegheny River Boulevard in Verona and end at 7 p.m. there will be music, food and visits with Santa Claus in Verona. There are several ways to support breast cancer awareness locally over the next few days! Here are some upcoming events: Wine Tasting If you like wine, the Mighty Oak Barrel is hosting an event for you. The Oakmont restaurant will host a wine tasting on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 24 and 25, featuring women winemakers. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. Annual Celebrate Oakmont Event to be Held Next Week

The Oakmont Chamber of Commerce will host the Celebrate Oakmont Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Local residents can enjoy what community businesses have to offer during the Oakmont Chamber of Commerce's Celebrate Oakmont event. The chamber expo will be held on from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Greek Orthodox social hall and Riverside Landing on Washington Avenue. There will be door prizes, food, entertainment, more than 60 vendors and other festivities. The cost is $10 per ticket purchased in advance. Military Connections Can Win '15 Minutes of Fame'

The organization is hoping to win a Facebook contest for 15 hours of public relations services.

A local nonprofit organization is hoping to win "15 minutes of fame" with your help! Military Connections, an organization that provides care packages, equipment and various supplies to military troops, has entered the Markowitz Communications "15 Minutes of Fame" Facebook contest to win 15 hours of public relations services for free. Oakmont Chamber to Host 'Women in Politics' Lunch

The event will be held April 4 at noon.

Dana Brown, executive director of the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics at Chatham University, will join Oakmont Chamber of Commerce members for a discussion on April 4. The lunch presentation will be held at the Riverside Student Life Center in Oakmont at noon. The center is located at the corner of Allegheny and Delaware avenues. The cost to attend is $15. Brown will discuss the status of women in politics both at the state and federal level. She will also review the roots of low representation of women in governments and what we can do to make a difference. The Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics at Chatham University is a non-partisan organization that is focused on educating and empowering women for public leadership. …
