Holiday Park VFD Park & Ride to Close for Several Months

The park-and-ride will be closing at the end of this week.

The Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department Park-and-Ride lot in Plum will be closed for several months beginning Thursday. The park-and-ride lot, which is owned by the volunteer fire department and located along Golden Mile Highway, will be closed for its annual Christmas tree sale beginning on Thanksgiving. However, the lot will not reopen after Christmas as in previous years. The fire department is working to expand its building and the lot will remain closed through approximately April 2013. Fliers have been placed on vehicles at the lot to alert riders of the closure. The lot serves the P12 Holiday Park Flyer bus route.  _______________________ Plum-Oakmont Patch is on Facebook and on Twitter. Don't forget to sign up for our daily …

Port Authority to Hold Public Hearing Wednesday Regarding Proposed Cuts

If enacted, a Port Authority of Allegheny County proposal to address a $64 million budget shortfall would cut routes, service and ACCESS Paratransit to dozens of neighborhoods—including Plum, Oakmont and Verona. What do you think of this plan?

The agency plans to hold a daylong public hearing Wednesday to seek public comment on its proposal, which follows a 15 percent service cut nearly a year ago. The proposal includes the elimination of 46 of its 102 of existing bus routes and sharply reduce service on others in September. The P78 Oakmont Flyer and the P12 Holiday Park Flyer—express routes in Oakmont and Plum, respectively—are among those that would be cut. The P16 Penn Hills Flyer (which services parts of Plum and Oakmont) and the P67 Monroeville Flyer also would be …

Port Authority Accepting Public Comment Regarding Proposed Cuts

The public comment period for Port Authority’s proposed service reduction and fare increase began Sunday.

A form now is available on the Port Authority’s website for riders and community members to leave their comments about the proposed service reduction and fare increase. The proposal includes the elimination of the P78 Oakmont Flyer and the P12 Holiday Park Flyer, express routes in Oakmont and Plum, respectively. The P16 Penn Hills Flyer (which services parts of Plum and Oakmont) and the P67 Monroeville Flyer also would be cut. Holiday Park and Verona would be among the neighborhoods that would lose all form of transit service, and bus service to the Community College of Allegheny County–Boyce Campus in Monroeville will be slashed. The Park and Ride lot at Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department in Plum also will be closed if the Holiday …

Monroeville Plaza Park and Ride Lot to Close

The lot will close Dec. 2.

The Monroeville Plaza Park and Ride lot will end park and ride service after Friday, Dec. 2, as the plaza has opted to end its agreement with Port Authority. This park and ride serves the P12 Holiday Park Flyer bus route. Port Authority is actively seeking to establish another park and ride facility within the corridor to accommodate its displaced patrons. P12 riders also should be aware that parking will be limited at the Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department lot from Nov. 23 through Dec. 23. Only about 20 spaces will be available during this time, except on Thursdays, when the lot will be closed entirely due to bingo. For more information on park and rides, riders can visit portauthority.org or call Customer Service at 412-442-2000 or …
