The tunnel will remain open Memorial Day weekend.
The outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will be closed this weekend, May 17-20. The tunnel will remain open in both directions during the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend, May 24-27, according to PennDOT. The closing will occur from 11 p.m. on Friday, May 17, through 6 a.m. on Monday, May 20 so that crews can begin the replacement of concrete bridge slabs inside the tunnel and continue to remove the tunnel ceiling. When overall work is completed, vertical clearance in the eastbound tunnel will increase from 13 feet-6 inches to 14 feet-9 inches. PennDOT says motorists should use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area.
Work to repair barriers on the Parkway East (I-376) will occur on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, May 14 and May 15. Crews from Penn Line Service, Inc. will perform repairs on concrete median barriers each night. The left-hand lane will be closed as needed in the following areas: Motorists should use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when driving through the area.

PennDOT will close the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) during the next two weekends, May 10-13 and May 17-20. The closure will be taking place during the Komen Race for the Cure in Oakland on Sunday, May 12. The closures will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday. Anyone heading to Harmar from Oakmont should be aware of these restrictions.
Traffic on southbound Freeport Road will be reduced to a single lane today, April 23, in Harmar Township. The southbound right lane will be closed from the Hulton Bridge (connecting to Oakmont) to Powers Run Road. Restrictions will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crews under contract with Verizon will be digging test holes to locate conduits. The closing is postponed to Monday, April 15.
The bridge that carries Plum Street over Plum Creek in Oakmont and Penn Hills will be closed to traffic beginning on Monday, April 15, according to PennDOT. The bridge was originally scheduled to be closed long-term on Thursday, April 11, but that has been postponed, PennDOT said. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. on Monday and continue through early July. The bridge area is east of Allegheny River Boulevard near the intersection with Dark Hollow Road. About 2,614 vehicles use this bridge on an average day, according to PennDOT. The $1.2 million project includes replacing the bridge deck, strip seal dams, sidewalk and parapets, and other improvements.
