Two former Genesis Child Care employees have received probation sentences after incidents from last year.
Two of three women accused of being involved in a child abuse case at the Genesis Child Care at Pittsburgh East Community Church in Plum have been sentenced to probation. According to court documents, former childcare worker Eileen Marie Andrews, 45, of Penn Hills pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault of a victim younger than 12 during a non-jury trial in Allegheny Court of Common Pleas Tuesday. She was sentenced to six months probation. Other charges of endangering the welfare of children and simple assault were withdrawn. During a preliminary hearing Wednesday, charges against three women involved in an alleged child abuse incident at the Genesis Child Care facility in Plum were held for common pleas court.
Three women accused of being involved in a child abuse case at the Genesis Child Care at Pittsburgh East Community Church will go before a common pleas court judge. During a three-and-a-half hour preliminary hearing at Plum District Justice Linda Zucco's courtroom on Wednesday, Eileen Marie Andrews, 44, a former worker at the facility—it has since closed—was held on two counts of simple assault and four counts of endangering the welfare of children. Childcare Director Angela Marie Russo, 49, and Director of Children's Services Terry Lynn Bachner, 43, were each held on two counts of endangering the welfare of children and two counts of failure to report abuse. Preliminary hearings have been postponed for three women charged last week in an investigation into alleged abuse at the Genesis Child Care facility at Pittsburgh East Community Church in Plum, according to court dockets. The Genesis Child Care facility at Pittsburgh East Community Church will be closing in April following accusations against a former employee. Plum police Chief Frank Monaco confirmed an investigation is ongoing. He said he couldn't release much information, but said police have been interviewing parents and employees at the church. In an e-mail to the Plum-Oakmont Patch, Lee Kritcher, the senior pastor at the church, said one of the former workers in the day care center "has been accused of endangering children—not anything sexual in nature—but by alleged incidents of rough handling."
