The Plum Borough Education Association is hosting a spaghetti dinner for the Nixon family.
The Plum Borough Education Association is hosting a charity “Spaghetti Dinner and Raffle” to benefit the family of a Plum woman battling leukemia. The dinner, which will be held Feb. 2 at the Plum Senior Center, will raise funds to support Lorri Nixon and her family. Nixon and her husband, Tom, have a son, a daughter at Plum High School and another daughter at Adlai Stevenson. The dinner will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. The cost is $7 and $5 for senior citizens. Children 4 and younger eat for free. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, bread, salad, dessert and drinks. Takeout is available. The second-annual Plum Borough Education Association Festival in the Park was held on Sunday at Boyce Park, and there was no shortage of great Halloween costumes. This year's festival—held in memory of Kimberly, Brenna and Mikaela Griffith of Plum, who all drowned in during a flash flood on Washington Boulevard last year—benefited the Beilstein family of Plum. Donations will go toward the Beilstein Children Memorial Fund, which was created in May after Christine Beilstein, 45, died in a tragic car accident in Penn Hills. Beilstein's 9-year-old son, Justin, suffered serious injuries in the crash and continues to receive treatment for them. Justin is a fourth-grader at Regency Park Elementary School. This Halloween, two Plum organizations are hoping to raise money for local causes. The Plum Chamber of Commerce's "After Hours" Halloween party event on Friday, Oct. 26, will raise money for the Plum Borough Emergency Medical Services and the four fire departments—Holiday Park, Unity, Renton and Logan's Ferry Heights. The Plum Borough Education Association is hosting the second-annual Fall Festival Parade in the Park on Sunday, Oct. 28, to benefit a Plum family affected by a fatal car accident earlier this year.
