Plum District Justice Linda Zucco heard the following cases on March 27: Charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, harassment and disorderly conduct against Micah Spencer, 31, of Oakmont, were withdrawn. Oakmont police had filed the charges after a March 13 incident along Hulton Road. Ritchie Delvon Benjamin, 21, of Penn Hills waived a preliminary hearing on charges of possession of marijuana, driving without a license, careless driving, no rear lights, no use of low beams and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. Police will be out and about, so don't drink and drive!
Just because it's St. Patrick's Day weekend, it doesn't mean you have a greenlight to drink and drive. The East Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting roving DUI patrols in Plum Borough, Oakmont Borough and Penn Hills beginning Friday, March 15. The task force consists of Plum, Oakmont, Monroeville, Forest Hills, Wilkins, White Oak and North Versailles police departments. See how many drinks will affect your blood-alcohol content. Plum emergency officials recall what they say is one of the most significant emergencies to occur in the borough.
On March 5, 2008, Frank Monaco had been chief of the Plum Police Department for eight months—and he would be called to the scene of what he says is one of the most significant emergencies he's experienced in the borough. At about 1:39 p.m., a natural gas explosion destroyed a residence at 171 Mardi Gras Drive killing Richard Leith, 64, of Level Green, and seriously injuring his 4-year-old granddaughter, Gianna Pettinato—Leith, who died at the hospital following the explosion, was babysitting the little girl. A November 2008 National Transportation and Safety Board report determined that the probable cause of the explosion and fire was excavation damage by a third party to a Peoples Natural Gas Co. two-inch distribution line.
