Tickets Available for RCAC's 'Moon Over Motown' Dance

The dance will be held on Friday, March 1.

If you're in the mood for a night out, consider heading to the Riverview Community Action Corp.'s fundraiser dance. The Oakmont senior center is hosting "Moon Over Motown," featuring the music of The Pittsburgh Doo Wop Big Band. The event will be held on Friday, March 1, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Futules Harmar House, 1321 Freeport Rd. in Cheswick. The cost is $20 per person before Feb. 20 and $30 per person after. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. Cost includes dinner, dessert, dancing and a cash bar. There also will be Chinese auction items. Former Senior Center Director Enters County ARD Program in Theft Case

Vanessa DuVall is accused of stealing close to $10,000 from the Oakmont facility.

A former Riverview Community Action Corp. director accused of embezzling money from the senior center will complete an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program. Last week, Vanessa M. DuVall, 39, of New Kensington had an ARD hearing before Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Judge Robert C. Gallo. She was admitted into the program for 18 months. According to the state code, the program is intended to encourage offenders to make a fresh start after participation in a rehabilitative program and offers them the possibility of a clean record if they successfully complete the program. RCAC Collecting Toys, Food to Distribute to Needy Families this Holiday Season

The Riverview Community Action Corp. is asking for donations to help those in need.

The Riverview Community Action Corp. in Oakmont is hoping to help needy families in Oakmont and Verona this holiday season. The organization once again is asking for toy and food donations to distribute to families in need. Lynn Verratti, information officer for RCAC, said a previous donor is unable to help this year, so it's important for the community to pitch in to help local families. Anyone who needs help can call Verratti at 412-828-1062 to request food or toys this season—it is required to live in Oakmont or Verona. The food pantry is open all year. Verratti said members hope to distribute toys to families on Dec. 17 this year. RCAC also will be hosting a line dancing Christmas show on Friday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. admission is free, …

Former RCAC Director Waives Hearing on Theft Charges

A former Riverview Community Action Corp. director accused of embezzling money from the senior center will go before a common pleas court judge next month. On Wednesday, Vanessa M. DuVall, 37, of New Kensington waived a preliminary hearing at the court of Plum District Justice Linda Zucco on charges of theft and access device fraud. DuVall is accused of embezzling at least $10,000 from the senior center, which is located on Second Street in Oakmont. She was employed at the center from 2004 to 2011. The Allegheny County District Attorney's office filed the charges against her last month after a year-long investigation. Vanessa DuVall is accused of embezzling money from the Oakmont senior center.

The former Riverview Community Action Corp. director is facing charges after allegedly embezzling money from the senior center. The Allegheny County District Attorney has charged Vanessa DuVall, 37, of New Kensington with theft and access device fraud. Charges were filed at the office of Plum District Magistrate Linda Zucco on Wednesday. According to the police report, DuVall is accused of embezzling at least $10,000 from the senior center, which is located on Second Street in Oakmont. A warant has been issued for her arrest. She is expected to turn herself in on Wednesday, according to the DA's office. Riverview Community Action Corp. Extends Hours Due to Heat

The center in Oakmont will be open later to provide relief from the heat.

Riverview Community Action Corp. in Oakmont will be open until 5:30 p.m. to provide senior citizens extra relief from the day's hot temperatures. With temperatures expected to reach 86 degrees with a heat index of 91 degrees today, county senior citizens can visit any of the county-funded senior center during regular hours of operation (up to eight hours during peak heat times) to socialize and enjoy some activities while taking refuge from the heat. Riverview Community Action Corp. and the Plum Senior Community Center are among the sites that can be visited by all. RCAC is located at 501 Second St. in Oakmont.
