Here's a traffic update for those who travel on Route 28.
Traffic on southbound (inbound) Route 28 in Pittsburgh and Millvale will be reduced to a single lane this weekend, March 8 to 11, weather permitting. Crews will continue work along the southbound lanes including new utility connections. Single lane traffic will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday (tonight) continuously through 5 a.m. on Monday between the 40th Street Bridge and East Ohio Street. Short-term lane closures on Hulton Road and Freeport Road in the area of the Hulton Bridge in Oakmont and Harmar will occur Tuesday through Friday, Dec. 18 to 21, weather permitting. Crews will be taking test borings in various locations as part of the design process for a future project to replace the Hulton Bridge. Restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Here's a traffic update from PennDOT.
Traffic on southbound (inbound) Route 28 in the City of Pittsburgh will continue to be reduced to a single through Thursday night, Dec. 6, weather permitting. Restrictions will occur as needed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night between the 31th Street Bridge and East Ohio Street exit. Crews will perform utility work. The work is part of the $36.4 million Route 28 Phase IV improvement project. The prime contractor is the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh. Overall work will conclude in fall 2014. Here's a look at where PennDOT road crews will be working this week.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation road crews will be crack-and-joint sealing and patching roads in the Plum-Oakmont area this week. All activities are weather permitting. Lane closures and restrictions should be expected in work areas. Crack-and-joint sealing is a preservation activity that prolongs the life of road surfaces by preventing moisture from entering cracks and joints, which can cause potholes and premature deterioration, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi. See when you could expect some road restrictions and closures this week.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation road crews will be working on the Parkway East near Plum and on the Squirrel Hill Tunnel this week. Bridge inspection activities on the Parkway East between the Penn Hills (Exit 81) and Monroeville/Plum (Exit 84) interchanges will occur on Thursday, Oct. 11, weather permitting. A Plum road will be patched and a portion of route 28 will be closed nightly this week. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, road crews will be working in Plum, patching Leechburg Road from Sardis Road to Kerr Road. Work will occur Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 9 to 12. Southbound Route 28 also will be closed at the Millvale Interchange (Exit 3) in Millvale Monday through Wednesday nights, Oct. 8 to 10. You might want to avoid Route 28 inbound this weekend. The highway will be closed at the Millvale Interchange (Exit 3) in Millvale this weekend, Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, weather permitting. The closure will occur from 8 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be detoured using the southbound on-off ramps at the interchange. Police will assist with traffic control to keep the detour routes moving. Short-term single lane alternating use traffic on the bridge that carries Freeport Road over Barge Basin (Guys/Campbells Run) in Harmar will occur today, Sept. 25. Restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the bridge area between the Hulton Bridge and Guys Run Road—the road is located right across the Allegheny River from Oakmont Borough. Crews will be moving temporary concrete barrier for the next phase of bridge improvements. About 11,098 vehicles use this bridge on an average day.
