After a few days in the 60s, it's feeling like winter again.
Residents of the Plum-Oakmont area received a short-lived break from the winter weather this week. After a few days of spring-like weather, temps are rebounding back to below freezing. The area also is expecting some snow showers. The national weather service says the most intense snow will be Friday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a winter weather advisory for most of western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County and the Plum-Oakmont area, from 10 a.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday. About 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected in the area. Well, those of you wishing for a winter wonderland at Christmastime have definitely gotten it. Our area remains under a winter storm warning until 6 a.m. Thursday. The snow has been pretty steady in the Plum, Oakmont and Verona area since about 10 a.m. Wednesday. As of 3 p.m., it seems as though as least 3 inches has fallen. It might not seem like a lot, but it's definitely causing some trouble on the roads. Route 28 was closed in both directions from Harmar to Tarentum (the Pittsburgh Mills) due to poor weather conditions, and multiple accidents have been reported in the region. Route 28 has since reopened. Earlier this morning, a car reportedly drove over an embankment along Saltsburg Road in Plum. Businesses also have altered their …

Some snowfall is expected in the days leading up to Christmas Eve, according to the National Weather Service.
If you're dreaming of a white Christmas, this may come as a disappointment—weather forecasters in Moon Township say no Yuletide snow is on the way. Meteorologist John Darnley, of the National Weather Service in Moon, said a storm front moving in through the Midwest is expected to arrive in Western Pennsylvania on Christmas Day. Snow isn't on the forecast for the day, but rain is a possibility, he said. "We might actually see some snow Friday night into Saturday morning," Darnley said. "Maybe one to two inches." Darnley said temperatures will cool off on Sunday and Monday, just as a large storm front moving from the middle of the country makes its way to Western Pennsylvania. It's too early to tell what kind of effect Hurricane Sandy will have on our area, but here's a look at how the county is preparing and the forecast.
Our area had tons of sunshine and warm weather over the last few days, but that's all going to change. The weather this weekend is only going to get worse as forecasters track the eventual collision of Hurricane Sandy from the south with another storm system from the Midwest—it look as though Sandy will be in the vicinity early next week. The National Weather Service is reporting that combination could bring snow, wind, rain and flooding to much of Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency also has indicated that the potential heavy rains, high winds and risk of flooding may result in extensive damage to roads, streets, bridges and property, according to an Allegheny County press release.
