About Timothy
For over 25 years, Tim McAteer has worked as a journalist and has covered a wide variety of stories. Tim has worked for a newspaper chain, radio stations, television stations and for several Internet sites.
His real passion is covering community news and learning about local politics and issues. A lot of the story ideas come from interacting with neighbors and newsmakers in the communities he covers.
Tim has worked in several newsrooms including the Long Island News Group, Shadow Broadcast Services, News 12 Networks, Internet Broadcasting, CBS Radio (1010WINS.com), and Hearst Television (WTAE-TV & ThePittsburghChannel.com). He has covered many large stories including the Long Island Rail Road Massacre, Flight 800 crash, Suffolk County Brush Fires, Tanker Explosion on the Long Island Expressway, 1998 Goodwill Games, the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on New York, Steam Pipe Explosion in Manhattan, several hurricanes and tropical storms, Super Bowl Parade for the Steelers, Stanley Cup Parade for the Penguins, Pittsburgh G-20 Summit, winter storms in western Pennsylvania in 2010, and many more events.
In those newsrooms he worked as a reporter, producer, bureau chief, assistant operations manager, managing editor and a digital executive producer. As a manager he is known for treating his staff with respect, but pushing them to be better at their craft.
Tim thoroughly enjoys working on the Internet and how the audience interacts with stories. During breaking news or weather events you will often see him monitoring or updating blogs with the latest updates.
Tim joined the Patch.com team in August 2010 and is building a strong editorial team in western Pennsylvania.
