A Stop at Freedom Square

A formal opening hasn’t happened yet, but folks are stopping in at a regular pace for breakfast or lunch and some may even be taking dinner home.

This week a group of us decided Freedom Square in Verona mini-Mall along Allegheny River Blvd. would be a nice adventure for our Breakfast Club.  What a wonderful surprise….the amenities were bright and clean and cheerful, the tables nicely spaced, and the food was delicious.

I had the special (see the upper right hand corner of the menu pg. 1 for a before 10 am breakfast).  The bacon was crisp, the rye toast was thick with melted butter, the over-easy eggs just “juicy” enough, and I really liked the iced tea with mango jell balls,  Another person liked her pumpkin pancakes, another had a waffle with her eggs, and another just had the fruit (which she said was fresh and tasty…not jarred or defrosted).  In other words we had a most delightful, relaxed breakfast.

I tried to push for a dinner opening, but I don’t think that will happen for a while, it ever.  Shawn’s (the owner) Dad, Tom Cross (who was not at all cross but quite pleasant), explained that the owners were young family men and liked being with their families.  If they stayed open for dinner they would never get home, so they seat the last guest at 3 pm; that way they might be home by 7 pm or so.
